Demonstration
Trainer will “provide a demonstration of the skills consistent with the type of competent skill: kinds-of, how-to, and what-happens” (Reigeluth et al., 2009, p.42). Here trainer can ask for a volunteer to demonstrate or role play in front of the group on how to provide feedback to clients. As a group, staff will be asked to state what they have observed.
Next, trainers “should provide guidance that relates the demonstration to generalities” (Reigeluth et al., 2009, p.42). Here trainer can ask staff to get into groups of 2 and role with each other, as the trainer walks around to observe and provide guidance where necessary. As stated, “instruction should engage learners in peer discussion and peer demonstration” (Reigeluth et al., 2009, p.42).
Finally, trainer “should allow learners to observe the demonstration through media that are appropriate to the content” (Reigeluth et al., 2009, p.42). Here the trainer can show video clips on giving effective feedback.
The role of the trainer/facilitator is:
-To provide clear step by step instructions
-To allow the staff to practice their skills
-To be open to adjusting to the needs of the staff
